The mission of Dr. Caroline Brusselmans is to help clinical pathology students to master hematopathology and become independent evaluators of peripheral blood smears, bone marrow smears and body fluid cytology. To this end, Dr. Brusselmans created a very succesful hematoatlas website in 2006. The general approach of the hematology atlas was to provide detailed description of cellular characteristics within a large variety of conditions. All descriptions were accompanied by a large number of representative images, together creating a comprehensive cell morphology atlas. The website was a massive success and is, to this day, regularly referenced by hematopathology students and practioners in Belgium and The Netherlands.
The 2022 international edition of our hematology atlas is a completely revised, updated version of the original hematoatlas and contains several new additions. One of the key features in the 2022 edition is the inclusion of digital microscopy. We provide a large variety of virtual cases that realistically simulate clinical scenarios. Furthermore, we now include many more illustrations and describe cells and disease entities in more detail. The new version of the hematology atlas also contains interactive lectures, an e-learning module and didactic games to help students learn to recognize cell morphology.
We hope that the atlas is of use to all healthcare professionals regularly performing hematological diagnosis.
The hematology atlas is intended for students and practioners of:
